Toyama, Japan

Toyama city – a major city located in the northwest region of Japan, holds records of heavy snowfalls every winter. There are many apartment buildings on which large amount of snowfall is accumulated (depicted herein after) and gradually forms thick hanging tapered mass of ice formed by the freezing of successive water droplets - also known as icicles. Unfortunately, and sure enough dangerously, many times it happens that few kilograms of icicles forms into one block that detaches off the snow pile and free falls onto building’s parking lots or access way to the building entrance from the building’ roof top.

We were asked to install an AHT’s outdoor heating solution on roof top parapets of an apartment building situated near the city-centre of Toyama city. Prior to the installation, the building’s parapet was coated with aluminium bronze covers (common practice in Japan’s construction standards).

We installed AHT’s outdoor heating ribbons on the pre-installed aluminium bronze coating and covered it with special casing designed for snow melting system for parapet. The results of the snowmelt and deicing system performance during winter snowfalls are very successful as one could see in the pictures hereinafter.

No icicles were formed above the building’s parking lot or the access way to the building entrance, and safety of building’s residents was permanently restored.
